A little story about this snowman. We had a warm snowfall in November and built this large snowman. As the winter progressed, it started to lean towards the south. Towards the sun. The sun isn't warm enough to feel in Alaska this time of year, nor is it out very long during the day... so it was a slow lean, over months. I then had the idea to change it's face location (it was originally facing towards the camera) so I wanted it looking at the stars and aurora. I had to do a little light painting to get enough light on him without it looking weird... took quite a few images before I was happy with it. This is two exposures... one of the snowman and one of the sky. I couldn't get the two elements I needed to work with me. Either the lighting on the snowman was wrong or the aurora wasn't bright enough or in the right place. Some may say I cheated... Some will say it is the artistic rendition, regardless, it is my rendition of that night... and it was a cold one to be playing in the dark!
You would think with the amount of snow Fairbanks gets, there would be snowmen everywhere. Surprisingly there are not a lot of snowmen in Alaska. This is because once it gets cold, usually in October, it rarely gets warm enough for the snow to be able to pack until April. You can sinter snow and carve a snowman, just like you could winter snow to build an igloo. The snow in Fairbanks is usually like a powder. And often stays a powder unless it is disturbed... if you take make a trail with snowshoes through the snow a few times, it becomes very firm and snowshoes are no longer needed.

ENCHANTED SNOWMAN
This image is a great addition to your holiday decor that easily extends into early spring. Unless you are like me, I love winter... it is displayed year round with a few of my favorite Snow Crystals.
Printed in color. Available in 2:3 ratio. As always, the image on the blog is not as sharp as your printed image.
My recommendations... Canvas is beautiful! Or order on standard photographic paper, take to your local professional framer for a beautiful mat and frame. Or frame with a simple black frame, be sure to get it mounted for easy framing.
