Snowflakes, or snowcrystals as I often refer to them as, are my little obsession. I had always wanted to photograph these tiny pieces of art... God's attention to detail is beyond our comprehension. I struggled with the right equipment to capture them in their glory.
I belonged to a camera group in Fairbanks, AK... the best camera group ever! In this group was the largest conglomerate of personalities, professions and ages. This was the most open group I had ever met. In this group there were military personnel, police, educators, hobbyists, engineers, pilots, hunters, professionals, stay-at-home moms, students, retirees, etc. Being new to Alaska this small group is where I found my people. I am forever grateful for each one, especially for Tom and Wendy, owners of the shop, Alaska Camera.
This group was all about sharing and helping each other become better. Because of this group, I got to meet a wonderful man, Andrew, that helped me get the right equipment to pursue the ability to photograph snowflakes... all macro. And because of Andrew, I am now able to share these little flakes with all of you.
I almost always use an Olympus Pen F camera in high resolution (a multi image capture that more than doubles the MPs) attached with a 60mm macro lens, a 16mm extension tube and a 2x teleconverter. ALWAYS using a tripod and often using additional light.
I hope you enjoy the video. About 25 of these snowcrystals are new, first time seen. I had to add a few older ones for the length of the music.
NOTE: All images in this blog are not of the highest quality. They are low resolution. Higher resolution can be seen in the online store... cjimagery.com
